Project: MLK Boulevard Client: City of Panama City Downtown Improvement Board Project Cost: $120,000 Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard in Panama City was recently improved to a four lane divided highway. During the construction process, we came to the realization that the only landscape planned for the medians was Bahia sod. Working with the City of Panama City Downtown Improvement Board, we made a successful application the Florida Department of Transportation for a Beautification Grant. The grant split the costs of the project 50/50 with the City. Competitive bidding kept the price well under budget. Muskogee Crape Myrtles and Live Oaks, both in 100 gallon containers, were installed in the medians along with Yaupon Holly, Yellow African Iris and Wildflowers. The trees are spaced to meet the criteria of the Florida Department of Transportation roadway design standards. The trees are also planted to avoid conflicts with overhead utilities that cross the street. |

The flowing lines of the Yaupon Holly curve gracefully around the trunks of the Crape Myrtle. These curves create planting pockets for Aztec Grass, Juniper and Yellow African Iris.
