Client: Bay District Schools Architect: Taylor Architects with Barger Dean Project Cost: $15 Million Landscape Cost: $250,000 Bay High School was an opportunity for the design of a strong campus landscape. This flagship school underwent major renovations that removed the few existing trees. A study of forms on the campus site plan lead to the circular courtyard between the new cafeteria and the music building. This circular courtyard occurs between a triangular courtyard on the West and a rectangular courtyard on the East. Positive and negative spaces counter balance each other in the plaza. The twelve upright evergreen Anise shrubs outside the plaza walls represent the twelve years of public school. The shrubs also serve to isolate the space from the rest of the school. |
