Panama City Airport - Lisenby Avenue Improvements

Project: LISENBY AVENUE IMPROVEMENTS

Client: Panama City Airport Authority

Engineer: Carlan-Killam

Project Cost: $2 Million

Landscape Cost: $60,000

Lisenby Avenue is the main route to and from the Panama City International Airport.  The challenges of this project were to work within a narrow right of way and provide attractive median and roadside plantings.

The landscape uses Cabbage Palms, the Florida state tree to invoke an image of Florida that visitors expect.

The landscape transitions to native plants along a stream that crosses under the road.  Plants such as American Beautyberry, Sweetspire and Fringetree blend into the native environment.  In addition to having showy flowers, these native plants serve as food for local wildlife.

Light poles along the roadway are spaced to work with the landscape.  The sidewalk along the west side of the road was redesigned at our request to accommodate the residents along this side of the road.

The median plantings are designed to provide interest year round.  Purple Muhly grass flowers in winter, Dwarf Indian Hawthorn in spring, and New Gold Lantana is covered with flowers until the first frost.
